SASSNITZ, GERMANY - FRIDAY 15 AUGUST - Fresh off their first-ever SailGP podium just one month ago in Portsmouth, the Switzerland SailGP Team is back in action this weekend at the inaugural Germany Sail Grand Prix (16 - 17 August). The event marks the second of five European stops on the 2025 calendar, with the adrenaline-charged F50 fleet taking to the waters of the Baltic Sea for two days of high-intensity racing.
As the Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix in Geneva approaches (20 - 21 September), the Swiss are determined to build on their recent success and make a strong impression on home waters.
The fleet will race in Germany across two days, with qualifying races taking place before the top three teams on points proceed into the winner-takes-all Final on Sunday afternoon. Fans in Switzerland can catch the racing live on Blue Sport and SailGP’s official YouTube channel from 15:30 - 17:00 each day. Viewers worldwide can find broadcast details here.
The podium last month marked a breakthrough for the Swiss, who have been steadily rising since the start of Season 2025 in November.
Driver Sébastien Schneiter reflected on the team’s momentum ahead of the weekend: “It feels like we’ve finally found our ‘send’ button. Reaching that milestone was a huge relief for the team, but our approach for this weekend hasn’t changed. We’re sticking to our processes, working hard, and letting that motivation push us even further.
“Our additional training time has gone really well this week, we’re making every hour on the water count, pushing hard whilst also keeping our energy high for the races. It’s also been valuable to give extra time to develop our reserve sailor, Arno [de Planta], and Maud [Jayet] - it’s been a great learning opportunity for everyone.”
CEO Boet Brinkgreve continued: “After a fantastic event in Portsmouth, where we proudly finished third, the Swiss SailGP Team is now fully focused on Sassnitz. The result was a huge boost for the crew, but more importantly, it showed the progress we’re making both on and off the water.”
“We know communication on board remains an area for improvement, and the team has continued to work hard on it. This dedication, combined with a new level of cohesion and a “sail like pirates” mindset - fearless, committed, and giving everything was a decisive factor in our Portsmouth success. It’s a spirit we’re determined to carry forward.
“That said, we remain realistic and balanced. In Portsmouth, some of our competitors faced challenges that affected their performance, which helped us reach the final. While that played a role, I’m confident our team has genuinely stepped up in skill and mentality. Sassnitz will be the real test of how far we’ve come.”
